Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born on March 30th, 1853 in the Southern Netherlands.
Van Gogh was the son of Anna Cornelia Carbentos and Theodorus Van Gogh. He was given the same name as his dead elder brother. Some people say that having the same name as his dead brother caused a deep psychological impact on him.
Van Gogh spent most of his early life working for a firm of art dealers.
He became an artist in 1880.
He died on July 29th, 1890.

Some of the things I discovered about Van Gogh are pretty interesting, but not very important. For example, I learned that his style and some paintings were influenced by Japanese art, by Rubens. I didn’t know either that he had some artist friends, among them, Picasso, Monet and Gauguin (which he accidentally cut his ear lobe). And last, I didn’t know he was actually at an asylum for treatment and much less that he tried to open a school of art.

The Potato Eaters
The Potato Eaters is a very original and unique painting by Van Gogh. He painted it in April, 1885 while he was in the Netherlands.
Van Gogh tried to make a great work during March and April of 1885 and he sent them to his brother who didn’t like the idea of the paintings and the sketches.
He worked on the painting from April13 until the beginning of May.
